Kartiga Thavaraj

Kartiga is an associate at Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein LLP with a specialized practice focused on both construction and constitutional litigation. She routinely represents clients in complex commercial cases, including on public-private-partnership (P3) projects, and acts in human rights and constitutional cases before the courts and at the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.
Kartiga, who was valedictorian of her University of Toronto Faculty of Law class, is a passionate advocate for social justice and human rights. She is involved with Pro Bono Ontario and the Group of Racialized Ontario Women Litigators (GROWL).
Nevethan Balendra

Nevethan is a lawyer at The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company in the Global Contracts and Technology Group. He has a background in environmental science, healthcare, and information technology. Nevethan was previously at a large regional firm in their Corporate/Commercial Group. He provides legal advice on a broad range of corporate/commercial matters, including mergers and acquisitions, privacy and data security, competition law, regulatory compliance, technology contracts, and private investments.
Gajan Sathananthan
(Treasurer)
Gajan is an associate in McCarthy Tétrault’s International Trade & Investment Law Group in Toronto. He has significant experience advising multinational and domestic businesses on how Canada’s laws related to trade with foreign countries may impact their business, helping businesses navigate sanctions issues, export controls, supply chain human rights issues, customs issues, treaty compliance and market access concerns. He also maintains a broad regulatory practice that supports clients at each stage of the regulatory continuum: from the earliest stages of product formulation and development, to packaging and labelling requirements, marketing and advertising issues, ensuring compliance with mandatory standards, obtaining requisite permits and licenses, and through to responding to regulatory enforcement actions.
Gajan was called to the Ontario bar in 2017 after receiving his LLB and BCL from McGill Law and sits on the executive of the International Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association. Prior to law, Gajan completed his undergraduate degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo and worked as a Technology Consultant for a global consulting firm.
Gathya Manoharan
(Secretary)
Gathya is a litigation lawyer at Nava Wilson LLP. She has been at the firm since she completed her articles there and got called to the bar in 2018. Her area of work focuses on real estate breaches, mortgage enforcements and general contractual litigation. Acting on behalf of both purchasers and vendors, and also lenders and borrowers, Gathya truly works for the client’s interests.
Gathya was driven to become a lawyer when she realized how versatile and powerful a law degree could be. She still considers this to be one of the most rewarding aspects of her role. In addition to the Tamil Bar Association, Gathya sits on the board of two other non-profit organizations.
Prashanth Chandrapal (Executive)
Prashanth is a policy counsel at the Law Society of Ontario.
Prior to joining the Law Society, Prashanth practised class actions, civil litigation, and family law. He also represented children in child protection proceedings as appointed counsel on behalf of the Personal Rights Legal Panel of the Office of the Children’s Lawyer (OCL).
In addition to his legal practice, Prashanth is an adjunct professor and has taught legal studies and criminology courses at Wilfrid Laurier University, the University of Waterloo, and the University of Toronto.
Sangeetha Puniyamoorthy
Sangeetha is a partner at DLA Piper (Canada) LLP and chair of the Canadian Intellectual Property & Technology group. She specializes in intellectual property litigation, and provides strategic advice in the procurement and enforcement of intellectual property rights. She has appeared as counsel in two appeals before the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as in matters before the Federal Court, the Ontario Courts, the Trademark Opposition Board, and the Competition Tribunal.
Sangeetha is past Chair of the IP-IT Section Executive of the Ontario Bar Association, serves on committees with the International Trademarks Association, and is a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada. She has been recognized for her intellectual property work by Chambers, Legal 500, Best Lawyers, Lexpert, Managing Intellectual Property, World Trademark Review, LMG Life Sciences, and Expert Guides: Guide to World’s Leading Women in Business Law. She was named in 2024 as one of the top fifty influential women in IP globally by WIPR. Prior to obtaining her J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2003, Sangeetha obtained a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto, and did research in psychosomatic medicine at the Toronto General Hospital.
Sujith Sutharsan
Sujith Sutharsan is an alumni of the University of Windsor graduating law school in 2017. Sujith Sutharsan founded his own criminal defence practice, Sutharsan Law Professional Corporation, in 2019. Sujith assists and defends any individuals under investigation of criminal offences. Sujith practices predominantly in Toronto but has practiced all over Ontario. Sutharsan Law proudly serves their clients in both English and Tamil.
Kubes Navaratnam
Kubes is the Managing Partner at Nava Wilson LLP. Over the past 8 years, he has led the law firm to its current position as one of the top 10 real estate law firms in Ontario. He leads negotiations on complex real estate and corporate matters, including the formation of investment entities and real estate development prejects. He is a two-time honouree of Homes Magazine’s annual “Who’s Who of Real Estate”. Kubes is a Board of Director for the Tamil Communty Center and is the Centennial College’s Legal Program Advisory Committee Chair.
Kubes received an LL.M. in international humanitarian law from the University of Toronto, a J.D. from the University of Western Ontario, and a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering from McMaster University.
Janani Shanmuganathan
Janani is a criminal appellate and trial lawyer with her own firm, Shanmuganathan Law. She frequently argues at the Ontario Court of Appeal, and has also argued at the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. In addition to criminal law, Janani also does regulatory work, defending professionals subject to investigations and disciplinary proceedings, such as lawyers before the Law Society of Ontario.
